Angela Juul, born in Hong Kong, earned her bachelor’s of science degree in Pharmacy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and her doctorate of pharmacy degree at Shenandoah University.

Angela began her pharmacy career in retail at Thrift Drug Inc. Her desire to have more one-on-one patient counseling and education led her to a position as an investigational drug pharmacist for the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) in the Infectious Diseases Department at the University of Pennsylvania.

Within the ACTU, Angela expanded her pharmacist’s duties to become more involved in HIV care where she instituted a medication adherence program for those patients requiring more intensive monitoring and support. In addition to educating patients, she also became a preceptor to pharmacy students as part of their ambulatory care rotation where they sharpened their skills in patient communication and clinical practice.

In 2000, Angela started working in the Rob Roy MacGregor Infectious Diseases Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center as an educator to patients, pharmacy and medical students, and pharmacy residents. As part of a multidisciplinary team of health care providers, she works primarily with HIV patients. She develops patient education materials and uses various educational tools and methods to help patients understand and adhere to their regimens. In 2005, she and her colleagues won the Clinical Effectiveness and Quality Improvement Award for their work in medication adherence in the outpatient setting.

Angela’s strong interest in providing drug and medical information to both health care professionals and patients led her to take on the role of Drug Information Specialist at the hospital in 2005. Shortly afterwards, she became Interim Director of the Drug Information Center. Her previous experience in patient education also includes being a Drug Information Specialist for Ask the Pharmacist, LLC, and for AstraZeneca, LLC, where she answered consumer questions regarding specific medications.

Angela’s extensive experience, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, has allowed her to be a hospital committee member to the Patient Education Subcommittee, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and Medication Safety Committee, where she works closely with other health care providers to provide patient and medication education and safety within the health system.
